How Do I Know God Exist?

Knowing God begins with a genuine desire to seek Him.

How Do I Know God Exist?

I grew up knowing Sundays were for church. It was simply a routine. Saturdays came with anxiety because Sunday meant the uncomfortable outfit, endless repetition, and sitting through a service I couldn't wait to finish.

I knew about church, but I didn't really know God.

As I grew older, I began to ask myself, “Is God real to me, or have I only been taught to believe in Him?” That question eventually led to another: “Am I willing to know Him for myself?”

Knowing God begins with a genuine desire to seek Him. The Bible says, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

Start by talking to Him honestly. Pray. Tell Him what you think, what you fear, and what you don't understand. Then open His Word. Jesus said, “Search the scriptures...” John 5:39. Don't read the Bible merely because it is a religious routine. Read it to discover God's heart.

And then comes the beautiful part: learning to recognize when God is speaking to you.

Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27

There is something incredibly exciting about realizing that God is not distant or silent. You begin to recognize His guidance, His correction, His encouragement and that gentle conviction that draws you closer to Him. You begin to see how He can speak through His Word, prayer, circumstances and sometimes through a quiet prompting in your heart.

Suddenly, Christianity stops being about “I have to go to church because it's Sunday” and becomes “I want to spend time with God because I know Him.”

Maybe the journey to knowing God doesn't begin with having every question answered. Maybe it begins with one honest prayer:

“God, I want to know You for myself. Reveal Yourself to me. Teach me to recognize Your voice and give me the courage to follow You.”

.....and that is where religion can become relationship.
